Hey ho, everyone!I just finished Man of Power by Mary Wibberley and let me say that it was tumultuous throughout the whole book. I thought eventually Sara would settle down, but she's a firey lass and there was much physical abuse by both she and Morgan in this book.
I'm not going to give away any of the mysteries revolving around Morgan, but I will say that the age difference - fourteen years - definitely enters him into the Perv of the Month club.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read, I didn't get bored for the most part and there were a few (but not enough) descriptions of outfits and food. I think Mary could have elaborated a bit - I mean, the setting is France, particularly Cannes and Paris - the style and food capitols of the world! There's a mention of a croissant here and there and a meager description of a Dior original gown made of silk and chiffon, but that's about as exciting as it gets, folks.
Here's my fave selection from the book, just based on the fact that it's so completely corny: 'Don't hit me,' he said slowly, 'or you'll get such a spanking -
''Oh, no, you won't!' Incensed, Sara kicked out with one bare foot. It connected with his shinbone and the impact brought tears to her eyes. 'Ouch!'
'Serves you damned well right, you little vixen,' he shook her. 'I've warned you about your temper -'
'Let me go!' Her hair tumbled wildly about her face, and her heart pounded, a mixture of fear and excitement. She struggled violently to escape, and he dragged her to the bed, sat down and pulled her over his knee.
'Don't you dare!' she shouted. 'Don't you -'
Morgan's hand descended, hard, twice, then he pulled her to her feet again. 'That's so you'll learn not to kick!'
Hee hee.
In closing, it's my opinion that Morgan and Sara will have a long life filled with domestic abuse arrests and sizzling making-up sex afterwards if this book is any indication of what life after this story will be like. I really hope that there's no children in their future or I'm sure the CPA will be making quite a few visits.
My next book will be The Cloudholders by Bethany Campbell. It's set in Hawaii and with all this rain and crappy weather, I'm looking forward to being transported to a sunny spot.
Tootles for now!

ReplyDeleteShe kicks him, and he spanks her. That seems alright to me. A real mam never strikes or kicks a girl.
